United States American Flag To Be 2/3 Of A Mile Long & 90+ Stories High. WOW!!
When you hear of someone with the lofty ambition to build the biggest American flag in existence, you likely have a specific image in mind. What you probably didn’t imagine was Terry Sachetti, a Canadian immigrant living in Minnesota. Sachetti and his nonprofit, Park of America, are on a mission to unite Americans during a particularly divisive time with the world’s largest Stars and Stripes at the center.
Sachetti moved to the USA over 39 years ago, and like many immigrants fell in love with the people and ideas of the country. Shockingly, however, he hasn’t yet become a citizen. “Before I become a citizen, I feel I have to go give something back first,” Sachetti explains. As the country grew more divided and hostile, he had a vision: a place that represented unity and understanding, a common ground for all Americans. Included in that plan, of course, is a massive, unmissable American flag 2/3 of a mile long and 90+ stories high built on a man-made mountain called Flag Mountain at the moment. The mountain is so big it can fit several Malls of America in side it. His aim is to raise funds and build his enormous, 6.6 million square foot flag by 2026 – the country’s 250th birthday.
Nothing grabs people’s attention like something huge, and that’s just how Sachetti wants it. But ultimately, his hope in creating Park of America isn’t to show off, but to get Americans across the aisle talking again. “America was founded on differences and debate. I want to create a place that highlights those differences in order to show how similar we all really are,” he elaborates. This extends to the flag’s interior as well, where he plans on having foods, sights, and attractions from all over the country. More importantly, he wants the flag to be an enduring and permanent reminder to the world that Americans everywhere are one people, E Pluribus Unum — Latin for “Out of many, one”.
Beyond Flag Mountain, Park of America will also include educational areas, such as a to-scale walkable map of the US, rides, and other attractions. Of particular note is the Soul of America building, a star-shaped building which will allow guests to record video and audio records to highlight the real people that make up the current and future United States. There is much more deeper meaning to all of this.
Park of America aims to be a unique mix of modern diversity and old traditions, helping Americans move forward while reminding us of where we came from. The founding fathers, Sachetti notes, didn’t agree on everything either.
And what about Sachetti’s citizenship? Can the man building a monument to the American ideal stay a Canadian citizen? Assuming fundraising goes to plan and his monument to the American people is built, he dreams on being sworn in at its base.
